After Canada Bread Co.was fined $50 million after pleading guilty to its part in a criminal scheme to fix the prices of bread, Canada’s commissioner of competition warns the investigation is far from complete.

On Wednesday, Canada Bread Co. was handed the largest price-fixing fine in Canadian history after pleading guilty under the Competition Act, two from 2007 and two from 2011.

In speaking with BNN Bloomberg on Thursday, Competition Commissioner Matthew Boswell said his organization’s investigation into alleged grocery price fixing is hardly over as the focus now shifts to retail pricing.

“Yesterday’s guilty plea was an important milestone in the case … but we have more work to do,” he said.

“Canada Bread’s guilty plea resolves the wholesale price fixing side. We have an ongoing investigation on retail price fixing.”

Boswell said the Competition Bureau has no evidence to suggest retailers are also involved and no timeline for any resolution to the investigation.
